Siege of Mafeking Two Shilling Note.
This is an authentic siege note issued in Mafeking in January 1900, so it is now 105 years old. It is numbered A5480 and signed in facsimile as they all were by Capt. H Greener who was Baden Powell's Paymaster. It carries the British Bechuanaland watermark. The Siege lasted until May 17th 1900 and as there were less than 1500 people of European's descent in Mafeking, the number of Siege Notes issued and is extremely limited. There were 1s 2s 3s 10s and the very rare £1 siege notes. For more information on these please consult most authoritative text available on this subject John Ineson's 'Paper Currency of the Anglo Boer War'.
The note has been folded where it has been carried in a pocket during this historic siege. This this is an authentic siege note and you are protected by my absolute unconditional 'no quibble' guarentee.
It was during the Siege of Mafeking that the Mafeking Cadets came to prominence who many people consider to be the first Boy Scouts. Without the fame accorded to B-P as the 'Hero of Mafeking' it is doubtful that he could ever have gone on to gain enough support to form the world's largest youth organistion.
